I don't write too much on this blog but Mac is started picking up words like crazy lately and I wanted to document some of his first and add a little context.
- Bye, Bye - Bye, Bye was definitely his first word and was usually accompanied by him blowing a kiss. Mac is the cutest thing during daycare pick up - waving bye bye to everyone and blowing kisses to teachers - and then bolting for the door.
- More, More - Mac started using sign language to let us know when he wants more (especially food) and now will say "more, more" when he makes the sign. This is typically followed by his made up sign for "please" which is him rubbing his hands across his chest - usually at mealtime making his t-shirts very dirty!
- Outside - This was the first word that Phil and I started spelling to eachother. If we accidentially say it out loud, Mac will head for the backdoor and ask for it to be opened.
- Open - reference #3
- Help
- Up - Usually asking to get on the couch to sit with us or out of his booster seat
- Juice
- Cheers - This was one of Mac's early tricks. He will hold his drink up and cheers each person (and sometimes each glass) at the table.
- Cheese
- Elmo - Mac loves Elmo! We get ready for work by letting him watch an episode of Sesame Street immediately after he gets out of bed and it is a nice way for him to gradually wake up. I've witnesss him extremely sleepy and fussy in the morning until Phil picks him up to carry him downstairs at which time Mac says "Elmo" and all is right with the world.
- Bubba - Mac calls a lot of things "ba-ba" but when Uncle Brian is around he never misses calling him "Bubba" or pointing to Uncle Brian when asked where Bubba is. I don't even recall teaching Mac to call Uncle Brian by that name but somehow he picked up on it!
- Da-Da - I'm hopeful he has finally mastered "Ma-Ma". But, "Da-Da" was definitely first and much more widely used.
- No, No, No*
Mine, Mine, Mine*
* We are trying to work on minimizing these!
